CONSULTING

Before embarking on a tiny house project, you are certain to have a question or two. Or maybe you're a do-it-yourselfer who is stuck partway through a project and needs a reassuring voice at the other end of a phone line. Whether your questions are conceptual or technical, we are here to help. 

Consultations are available 3 ways:

1. Telephone consultation with Kelley. This is the best option for quick questions and advice regarding building your tiny house. Note: Any design work requires a in-person site visit. To ensure accuracy, we cannot work off of photos, Skype calls, videos, etc.
2. On-site consultation are only available for clients who live in the greater Columbus and surrounding areas up to 75 miles oneway. These are conducted by Kelley. Kelley will conduct a on-site visit to answer any and all questions regarding your already existing design, quick fixes and strategy. This is not a full tiny house design or formal Site Visit - this is intended to assist the DIYer on their tiny house project. 
3. Site Visits are more structured to talk through your tiny house aspirations and ideas as to devise a plan with a rough design and execution plan in place at the end of the Visit. You will then have the option to take the plan to move forward on your own or hire our Cabin Chick Team to move forward with you through designing or building.

Please Note: If you live outside 75 miles of the Columbus area we unfortunately cannot schedule any on site consultations at this time. Also Please be prepared to be placed on a waiting list as our services are in high demand and we work on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Cost Breakdown:

• Phone consultation services are offered at an hourly rate of $100 (billed in 15 minute increments) with a one hour minimum.
• Local consultation services must be within 75 miles of the Columbus area. This service is offered at an hourly rate of $150 (billed in 15 minute increments) with a one hour minimum + a .50 cent per mile travel fee if traveling more than 50 miles.
• Site Visits are more involved as to talk through your tiny house aspirations and devise a plan with a rough design and execution plan. This service is offered at an hourly rate of $150 (billed in 15 minute increments) with a three hour minimum + a .50 cent per mile travel fee if traveling more than 50 miles.

Here is what generally happens during a Site Visit: Put on a pot of coffee and get ready to talk! Kelley wants to hear in detail about your tiny house - how you envision using the space, your design ideas, hopes, and wishes. If you want to let the kids chime in, Kelley’s all for it. This is the time for you and your family to dream out loud and Kelley is the girl to dream with.

When the coffee pot's empty it's time to for Kelley to meet your building area. She'll want some time to mosey around and get a feel for the place, then she'll make sure that the best area on your land is chosen for the job of holding up your tiny house goals.

This is the time when Kelley’s creativity and years of experience come together to form a picture of the tiny house you talked about over that pot of coffee. With a concept in mind, Kelley will share some preliminary sketches and ideas to share with you what she's thinking. It's with your feedback and direction that Kelley puts the polish on the concept. She wants to make sure that the tiny house that's taking shape in her mind is a place where you, your family and your friends will want to spend lots of time for many years to come.

The "concept" typically consists of a basic floor plan. The idea is to come up with a tiny house for your specific tiny house scenario and aesthetic - this is her specialty.

Please note, no budget is concrete until we move on from the conceptual phase into the budgeting phase - a separate process and fee.

You're in the driver's seat! If you want to move on from the concept drawings to build-able plans and a hard bid you will be put on our design or build priority list! We will keep your concept drawings on file and have a great starting place when the time comes to make your dream tiny house a reality!

During a Site Visit Kelley learns more about you and your tiny house dream, does a building site selection, and conceptual drawings to fit within your specified budget. The cost of a site visit is $150/hour with a three hour minimum. Please plan to send a 50% deposit when we provide a site visit contract. The balance is due upon Kelley’s arrival.

CUSTOM DESIGN

At Team Cabin Chick the way we do it right the first time is by encouraging our customers to share their vision for the perfect tiny house.

Our design services to fall into two categories:

A. Design from a consultation: This would include anything related to a consultation, over the phone, in person or the modification of any of our existing plans. Once we have agreed on the scope with a design proposal, our team gets to work. An average tiny house design takes around 20+ hours and a modification of an existing plan takes around 7+ hours. Further design is required for full tiny house builds, including material specifications and detail drawings.

B. Design by Team Cabin Chick: This is the more involved option and typically happens after Kelley has visited your site for a formal Site Visit. Kelley and her team develops conceptual drawings, these usually include an elevation, floor plan and platform plan. Once the client signs off on the concept, these plans typically go off to our draftsman to become buildable plans.

WE BUILD FOR YOU

The Cabin Chick Team can help you from start to finish to build your tiny cabin dreams. We will build everything from scratch to finish and throw in the kitchen sink. Literally, just to show our appreciation and how we will actually do everything for you, we will give you your kitchen sink for FREE! Currently or Team only builds in the Columbus Ohio and surrounding areas up to 75 miles outside of Columbus.

The steps to a Cabin Chick built structure:

Step 1: The Site Visit or Consultation

We work with you to make sure we have the right build for you during this time.

Step 2: Design and Budget

The concept drawings of your unique tiny house are turned into buildable plans. We figure out the nuts and bolts of the structure and work with you on material specifications. We create an estimate based off of the specified budget.

A. Building Costs

The size of the tiny house, the location, the materials, the level of finish-work-these factors make it impossible to provide a one-price-fits-all estimate. But here's what we can tell you:

To give you a better idea of the realistic costs associated with a Cabin Chick Tiny House, we have broken down the base cost of a tiny house:

Square footage construction price: $200 per square foot (200/sf tiny house = $40,000)

Custom design by Cabin Chick: $4,500

Therefore, the average starting cost of a custom Cabin Chick built tiny house is $44,500

B. Additional Costs

Level of finishings, interior walls, cabinets, etc can vary greatly. These factors can add around $100 more per square foot (give or take). At this $100/sf rate, for 200 square foot space, that is an additional $20,000.

Expenses associated with transportation, lodging, per diems and a travel time fee are not marked up and are billed directly to the client (if travel is more than 50 miles outside of the Columbus area).

IMPORTANT NOTE: None of these calculations include the costs of bringing utilities to the house. The Cabin Chick Team is not licensed to perform electrical, gas, or plumbing work, though we contract directly with sub-contractors.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Already have a tiny house, building, or cabin and you just need help with designing the interior and its furnishings? Well, we can help you with that, too!

Our interior design service to fall into two categories:

A. Digital Floor Plan Layout with Shopping List Only

Guided by pictures, measurements, and a shopping budget you provide to us, we will generate a digital rendering of your floor plan with 2 floor plan options for you to choose from. Included will be a shopping list of all items we recommend in our plan so you can easily shop and execute our interior design plan for your tiny home. 

This service is billed at a flat rate project cost of $900.00

B. In-Person, Hands-On & We Take Care of the Shopping

One of our Cabin Chick Team members will personally visit your tiny home, cabin and or space to work with you one-on-one within your shopping budget to make your tiny space beautiful and feel larger than the space truly is. We will take all the work off your hands and do everything for you from taking measurements, photos, to even doing all the shopping and setup. Our service will include 2 floor plan design options for you to choose from. We will work hard for you and then give you the big reveal to your new tiny space as if you were on one of the tiny house reveal tv shows! 

Our Interior Design services within 75 miles of the Columbus area are offered at an hourly rate of $150 (billed in 15 minute increments) with a three hour minimum (covering the initial consultation). Our clients are billed for the initial consultation, interior design floor plan, and design execution. Clients are NOT billed for time needed for our designer to do all of your shopping. 

To give you a better idea of the realistic costs associated with Cabin Chick designing your tiny space interior, we have broken down the base cost of a tiny house:

Initial Consultation: $150 per hour with a three hour minimum = $450

Custom interior design by Cabin Chick: $900

Interior Design Plan Set-Up & Execution: $150 per hour (billed in 15 minute increments) with an average of five hours = $750

Therefore, the average cost of a custom Interior Design Plan by Cabin Chick is $2,100. This is for the design and design set-up work only and does not include your shopping budget and any of the items purchased for your tiny space. 

Additional Costs:

GIVING BACK & BUILDING WITH PURPOSE

10% of all profits from each project gets donated to our Team Cabin Chick Campaign with Pencils of Promise donated in the client's name.
